In November 2024 PENHA (the Pastoral & Environmental Network in the Horn of Africa) celebrates 35 years of research, advocacy and support for pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities in the Horn of Africa.
To mark this achievement milestone PENHA, in conjunction with The Regional Centre for Training and Development of the Civil Society (RCDCS), will hold a half-day conference on the theme, ‘PENHA Through The Years (1989-2024)’. The event will be hosted by ODI.
PENHA will launch its most recent publication, ‘Social Protection for Inclusive Development in Afar Region, Ethiopia: Lessons for Sub-Saharan Africa’. This was a pioneering effort spearheaded by a collaborative consortium team from PENHA, University College London, Adigrat University and Samara University assessing inclusive social protection strategies in pastoralist communities.
We will also be hosting presentations on the pressing issues of the day affecting pastoralist lives. This includes: ‘Pastoralism, Livelihoods and Climate Change’ delivered by PENHA regional staff; and ‘Challenges and Prospects for Sustainable Peace in the Horn of Africa’.
Also on display during the conference will be PENHA’s paintings and photos that showcase pastoralist livelihoods and other publications that PENHA have published over 35 years.
