Description

Qualifications and skills required

  • Graduate and post-graduate degrees or equivalent in environmental management/science and/or business/management
  • Knowledge of the project management cycle
  • Team management and coordination skills
  • Ability to understand academic and technical papers, as well as participate in discussions relating to seawater greenhouse technology, reverse osmosis, and salt/mineral extraction from seawater
  • Ability to work with/within interdisciplinary and multicultural contexts

General professional experience

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in project management, design and implementation
  • Experience of working in East Africa and/or the Horn of Africa

Specific professional experience

  • Specific experience with seawater greenhouse technology would be considered an asset, but is not required
  • Experience in the management of European research grants, and the practices and policies of Sida in particular, would be an asset.
  • Experience in drafting research and project proposals and demonstrated success in securing grant funds

The role

  • Oversee all aspects of project implementation, working in collaboration with the Somaliland-based Project Officer and on-site staff in Berbera
  • Coordinate activities closely with Seawater Greenhouse Ltd UK (the key technical partner), PENHA’s UK office and PENHA-Somaliland
  • Liaise with Consortium members and participate in Consortium discussions on technical and research-related matters
